This body of work centers around my interest in the presence remaining
after a space is empty. Through photography I seek to capture a sense
of the rooms, evoking thought and emotion. Printing them at a large
size allows the viewer the experience the space as though they are
in it, leaving them to bring their own interpretations to it. As a
complement to the large work, the book explores this concept further.
The images are coupled with my writing based on my experience in the
spaces while photographing them. The work is also born from the idea
of preserving memories. Reflecting on my childhood, I became aware
of the fact that I did not recall much of my early years. The frustration
at not being able to retrieve these memories led me to look at other
peoples memories. This manifested itself not in portraiture, but by
preserving in photographs what is silent and inanimate, incapable
of remembering, the places in which those memories are based.
